Union Government has notified June 25 as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’. On Jun 25, 1975, the then Prime Minister had declared Emergency in India. To honour the spirit of millions who struggled to revive democracy, ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ is notified.
History:
On 25 June 1975, the then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi had declared Emergency in India. This Emergency period lasted from June 25, 1975 to March 21, 1977. Emergency which is seen as the darkest history of Independent India, saw the suspension of civil liberties, curtailment of press freedom, mass arrests, the cancellation of elections, and rule by decree.
