A goods train rammed into a stationary Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express (13174) near New Jalpaiguri on Monday, 17 Jun 2024.
The goods train loco pilot jumped the signal and crashed into the stationary Kanchanjunga Express. The three rear compartments derailed under the impact of the collision from behind the locomotive of the goods train. Around 15 passengers died and 60 others were injured as per the last report.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that an enchanced ex-gratia compensation will be provided to the victims- Rs 10 lakhs in case of death, Rs 2.5 lakhs towards grievous and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries.
