Watch: Trail run on the world’s highest railway bridge by IR

Indian Railways conducted two successful trial runs over the world’s highest railway bridge spanning over the Chenab River at a height of 1,178 feet.

The Engine trial was successfully conducted on 16 June 2024.

The full-train trial was successfully conducted on 20 June 2024.

Chenab Railway Bridge: An Engineering Marvel

Chenab Railway Bridge is a steel and concrete arch-bridge spanning the Chenab River at a height of 1,178 feet. It is the world’s highest railway bridge.
The bridge length is 4,314 feet.

This bridge is part of the newly electrified line section between Reasi and Sangaldan, covering a route length of 46 km on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.

Located in Seismic Zone IV, it is designed and rigorously tested to withstand high-intensity earthquakes up to a magnitude of 8 Richter and high-intensity blasts and winds up to speeds of 260 kmph.
