Assam Secretariat becomes India’s first Green Secretariat

Assam Govt. Secretariat became India’s first eco-friendly, ‘green’ state government headquarters with the inauguration of 2.5 MW Solar Project at Janata Bhawan (Secretariat).
This Green Secretariat shall save approx. INR 30 lakh power bills every month. It will operate entirely on solar energy. With a lifespan of 25 years, this solar plant will cut down 3,060 metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

The Chief Minister shared his vision to gradually all Govt. establishments to solar power beginning with Medical Colleges and Universities across Assam.

At the inauguration of Janata Bhawan Solar Project; Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam announced another major reform aimed at abolishing the prevalent ‘VIP culture’ and informed that from July 2024, all public servants in the state will be responsible for paying their electricity bills.

Setting a precedent, both the chief minister and the chief secretary will begin paying their electricity bills from July 01, 2024. This shall end the taxpayer-funded electricity consumption by government officials.
